Elections in Belize are the duly held elections held at various levels of government in the nation of Belize. Dissolving the National Assembly of Belize is the prerogative of the Governor General of Belize, currently Sir Colville Young. Under sections 84 and 85 of the Constitution, the Governor General can at any time dissolve or prorogue the Assembly under the advice of the Prime Minister of Belize, with the caveat that a general election must be called within three months of such dissolution, unless the Governor General sees no reason to do so.
City and town councils
City and town councils dissolve on the last Sunday of February in every third year, with the election called for the first Wednesday in March in every third year.
This years elections was call early, 3 years and 8 months earlier. On November 4th,2015 this is caled as the General Election. One of the issue that the country is going through is land despute between the Guatemala and Belize. Belizeans know that something is not right with the way how Guatemala has been allowed to take over this UDP Government.
Their is some clues of the way how the Prime Minister Dean Barrow has been hiding Information to the public coming from Giatemala huting the people of Belze. It is now a confirmed fact that since 19 August Guatemala has informed the Prime Minister that they have taken away the Belize portion of the Sarstoon River and the Sarstoon Island. This is a brazen violation of the 1859 Boundary Treaty and a breach of international law. In other countries this would be an act of war. In Belize, the Prime Minister has not even told the people of the country.
Worse, he has done nothing about it and his official speech which can be taken through the mouth of Sedi Elrington at the United Nations is a deliberate cover up of a grave threat to our country. It can also be interpreted that the Prime Minister knows what Guatemala may be plotting to do next and therefore is rushing a general elections before more bad news comes out. Another issue which Belizean citizens are very concerned about is how Mr. Barrow abused his office and squandered three hundred million dollars of the Petro Caribe money. This is money which Venezuela loaned to Belize to help the poor people and the middle class to make better in their life. In effect what the Prime Minister did was to high-jack these monies for party political use. The UDP is nakedly campaigning with Petro Caribe money, and we mean buying posters and banners and eventually they hope to buy votes. Apart from a few treats and projects, the majority of the money is now being used for all sorts of political matters. Now that all the money is gone and stolen, Belizeans are very angry. They have every cause to be angry with Mr. Barrow.
We all know that P.U.P and U.D.P are one two of two rights to vote in the country. But, majority or a percent of the country are undecided. We all heard about V.I.P and others running as independent. A new party came in tis year that will make a percent foboths parties UDP and PUP elections a small percentage. Since the new Belize Pogressive Party is only dealing with labor things will be tough on this years 2015 election. BPP last week announced its formation and named eleven candidates to contest the elections. They are to call a few Elizabeth Dena, Jose Luis Uk Espat, BPP Candidate, Albert, Milton Palacio, BPP Candidate, Stann Creek West, Robert Lopez, National Campaign Manager, BPP. "Polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 6:00 p.m. Nominations for persons wishing to contest the election will be received on Friday, 16th October 2015 between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the various Nomination Centers, Countryie.''This is Dean Barrow's words: I hate to put it like this, but to some extent, the fact that this was an election season, was a distraction and if we had prolong it, if we had extended it, a great deal beyond today's date, it would have meant that that distraction would have been compounded. We are confident that this is the time to go and we are confident that people will re-elect us."
When the Municipal elections that ws held in Belize on 4 March 2015. Voters elected 67 representatives, 18 on city councils and 49 on town councils. The elections were a decisive victory for the ruling United Democratic Part, which won 62 out of the 67 seats nationwide. The opposition People's United Party won the remaining seats, losing control of town councils in Dangriga and Punta Gorda, maintaining a majority only in Orange Walk Town.Since the P.U.P had promised health in the Country of Belize in Lake Idependence people are hapy. U.D.P is in crisis of healh issue cuntrywie. What does the Prime Minister thinks? Are you Ready to vote early?
