The how abouts of the Art in the Park in Corozal.

During the first ICA - Corozal Committee General Assembly, Ms. Debra Wilkes Gray, a photographer, brought up the idea of Art in the Park. The ICA Corozal Committee, under the leadership of Mr. David Akierman, embraced and implemented the idea.
Art in the Park provides artists with a much needed venue that gives them the opportunity to display and to sell their art.
Art in the Park first took place on 12 September, 2009. During this ground breaking event, 10 local artists were hosted and live musical entertainment was featured.
On 26 March, 2010, the evening of the national Belize Band Festival, one of the biggest Art in the Parks was held. Since media from Belize City was on hand for the Festival, they also aired a segment on Art in the Park on national tv.
Because of this amazing initiative on the part of Ms. Gray and ICA-Corozal, the talented artists who participate in this showcase are receiving the recognition they deserve. Apart from the national attention that Art in the Part received in March, at the same time the Corozal Child Arts Collective was also established. This new feature provides a permanent exhibit space for young visual artists.
Art work from this event has been on the road to Orange Walk and Belize City. Plans are to continue to promote artists through exhibits throughout the country and abroad.
This beautiful concept is slowly changing people's attitude toward art. The event now hosts as many as 30 artists and artisans, who are acquiring a new found sense of respect and attention.
Art in the Park had been eagerly embraced by Corozaleños, and many are learning to appreciate art that never had the opportunity previously. Art is alive and well in Corozal Town!
We plan to continue to provide updated information about Art in the Park. The event is very successful, and each month you will find new artists as well as those who have been there from the start. Sometimes the weather does not cooperate, but the artists will not be discouraged and will continue to come out!
Below is a sampling of the art displayed, and most are for sale. This gallery does not necessarily include images of all the work that artists have displayed at the event.
